Emails from classmates unable to attend the 20th Reunion

Ruth Atkinson Davis, I'm a math and science teacher at a middle school in Crosbyton, Texas, a farming community outside Lubbock. I've been divorced 6 years and have two wonderful children. Quinten 10 and Madison 8. We enjoy our "rural" life after having lived all over the United States (my ex-husband was a military officer). We do 4-H, go to street dances, county "fairs" and for excitement watch the cotton being ginned! Anyone that wants to contact me and renew old friendships feel free to email me at -- RuthA62@aol.com. address - 605 S. Ayrshire, Crosbyton, TX 79322 806/675-0000. Enjoy the reunion!

Ruth Atkinson Davis

Sorry that Nan (Tschudi) and I will be unable to attend the reunion.

Nan and I will be thinking of you this weekend and hope it is a great time for everyone!

We will be celebrating our 12th wedding anniv on Oct. 14th and feel very blessed to have four kiddos:

Madelaine Grace (3/29/92)
John-Paul Francis (12/05/93)
Brendan Connelly (11/12/97)
Bridgette Claire (9/01/00)

We've been fortunate to visit San Angelo at least once or twice a year to enjoy family (Pam and Max Parker), friends and the inherent charm of West Texas and its super people!

We will be toasting the class of '81 this weekend and we'll be with you in spirit!

All the best!

John

I am married to a great guy - Beau, and we have 3 wonderful sons. Cody, Seth & Quinn. They are alot of non stop fun and energy. We just recently moved to Clovis, New Mexico, where my husband is in a Dairy related business. I am a stay at home mom, and homeschool my 17 year old (senior) and 5 year old (kindergarten). We live out in the country and have Cutting horses and Border Collie's. Our priorities in our life are our family and our faith in God. We hope to make it to the next reunion and it would be great if it is in a few years and not 10 years down the road. Thanks for all of your hard work and everyone else who put this reunion together!

I am a maintenance technician for Rio Concho Manor Terrace. I have been there for 12 years and I enjoy my job. I keep everything running for the elderly and I make good money for this area. I own a large house in Miles,Tx and I have been married twice since High School. My present wife is a wonderful lady and I got lucky with this one.

So, I am sorry I won't be able to attend but maybe next time. However, thanks again for the news and updates of the Class of '81.

Peter and I have been married for 5 1/2 wonderful years. We have two beautiful boys, ages 2 years, (Martin) and 5 months (Stuart). We live in an old farm house (140 years old) next to a small county park in Michigan. We both graduated from college this past June. I received my B.S. and Peter received his Ph.D. I am unable to attend this reunion, but hope to attend the next. Hello to everyone and if you would like to contact me, my address and email are with Jay Weatherby. Until next time, take care and God Bless.

I will not be able to attend this celebration, and hope that all who attend have a great time remembering all the adventures. As for me, I am living in Normal, Illinois with my absolutely amazing husband, Ted. While I have no children of my own, we share in raising his 9-year old son, Bryan, a young man who brings joy into our lives daily and reminds me just how much I appreciate my own parents! Through the information I have received concerning the reunion, I've thought a lot about my growing up days in San Angelo, Texas, and how much I have valued the friends I have kept up with and those friends I have lost touch with. So, I want to say hello to those who have held a special place in my heart, Connie Flury, Sheri Merrill, Cindy Ybarra, Dacia Krause, and everyone else who is a part of Central High School's Class of '81. May God bless you all.

Dear Fellow Bobcats of 1981,

It is with great sadness that I write telling you I will be unable to join the festivities as you reunite after 20 years. The organizers have done such an amazing job of planning this party, and I was eagerly anticipating all of the fun. However, the terrorist attack on New York City (my hometown) has left me with a fear of travel. Thankfully our family is safe, but I cannot imagine getting on an airplane right now. My parents have told me of so many of you who have offered your prayers and concern, and that support has meant a great deal to me. It is a deeply sad and confused time, and to know that people across America are so caring uplifts all of our spirits.

On a lighter note, I thought I would update you on the last 20 years. I'm a hausfrau (somehow that sounds more glamorous in German), and my husband Steven and I have 3 delightful children. Warren is 6 and 1/2 and is in first grade. He goes to an all boys school that requires him to wear a coat and tie....briefcase optional. He is into all sorts of sports, and loves to fish and go to the beach. Coleman is 5 and seems only have two t shirts in his closet. His Yankees shirt emblazoned with his beloved Derek Jeter's #2, and his Batman shirt. Besides baseball, Coleman likes tools. He has figured out how to take the nobs off the doors and the chips out of all calculators. Which is a problem if anyone remembers my math skills. Claire (La Princessa) is turning 1 this weekend. She is a joy, and will be a very patient woman some day, since she has had her two brothers to deal with. She loves going about town in her stroller, and flirting with the fishmonger and the produce man. Claire is named after our Valedictorian, so hopefully she inherite a bit of her wisdom. We live in an apartment in the middle of Manhattan...quite a bit different from my childhood. We do get out of the city on the weekends and in the summer to a beach community in Long Island. I love being near the ocean, since we didn't have that advantage in West Texas. I met my husband on a blind date. Steve is from California, and grew up on an orange farm. He works on Wall Street, and is New York City's biggest booster. He is also a great Dad, and since we live in the city, he can see more of his kids. Lots of tradeoffs in this life, aren't there? Before we had children, I had a couple of jobs producing television for CNN and The Discovery Channel. Yep, it was just as exciting and as much fun as it sounds. I answered the survey question a couple of weeks ago "Who is the most interesting person you've met?" I wrote in Audrey Hepburn, President Clinton, Sting, Wynton Marsalis and Mel Gibson. This week I would change my answer to Mayor Giuliani. I wish I could give all of you a big hug, and listen to your stories of the past 20 years. Angie Jennison Moore promised to take good notes for me, and give a full report. There are so many times when I think back on days at CHS, and realize how the community there prepared me for life in the big city. No, it wasn't the geometry lesson or the chemistry lab. It was knowing that you can survive in a big place if you have a wonderful group of friends.

I send lots of love, and a wish for peace in the world.

Looks like I will be unable to attend (slight chance I can pop in for a short while Friday night) but just in case here is some info.

I have an 8yr old daughter and two stepson's ages 6 and 9. I have been married for four years. I am an LVN and by the time anyone may be reading this, will be working for TDH as a Public Health Tech II working case management for the PHC, Breast and Cervical Cancer programs. Previously I was with the Adult Day Care of San Angelo for 5 years. My message to all my friends. I hope you all rise in the morning and go to sleep at night with
the feeling that you have done all you can to make a difference. Touching someones life and making an impact is a great gift. Tell your husband or wife , your children, your mother and father and if you are lucky enough to still have them that you love them every chance you get. Sadly enough you never know when you might be robbed of that opportunity. Be happy, enjoy your children and be grateful that we live in a world where you can pray whenever and where ever you desire.

You know I'd planned on coming, but unfortunately, my mom had surgery and I'll have to bow out for now. She's fine, but I need to work for her the weekend of the reunion. She is a registered nursing working for Baylor, but in addition to her day-job, has a personal care home for the elderly here in Keller, Texas. She needs me to help her out. My thoughts will be with all of you who will be having a blast, I'm sure. Maybe we can, at some point, have a mini-reunion for those still in the Texas area, and I will make that one. I'm sure you and many others have planned a wonderful time for the Class of 81 - thanks! Take care, and God Bless!!

Hi Jay, I think we may go back as far as Bowie Elementary School. It's nice to hear from you again.

Anyway, regrettably, I won't be able to come to San Angelo for the reunion weekend. As luck would have it, I'll be there the following weekend.

I'm living in Dallas now. After High School, I attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1996. I then spent a couple of years in London, which was my big adventure. Getting serious about life, I came back to go to law school at UT, and graduated in 1993. I married Julian Anthony, who was also a law student but who now does computer programming. I then spent five years as supervisor of the appeals office in the Employment Commission in Dallas and then left that job to be a full time mother to Sophie (now 4) and Lincoln (now 2). We are all happy and well and count our blessings.

I am so sorry to miss the reunion and would love to hear about what other people have done and seen, including yourself. I remember that you were very talented musically. Keep me posted, if you can; I would really appreciate it.

I will not be able to attend this reunion. While I thoroughly enjoyed the ten year event, we just have too many things going on at the moment to be able to leave town for even a couple of days. I believe Lewis is planning on attending though, so he can represent the Wards at this one.:) If we have one at 25, I'll find a way to make that one.

I got married about a year after our last reunion. I met my wife Kari at our church, where we were both already members. We met in one of the singles classes (and meeting your spouse at church does eliminate one potential relationship issue). We have now been married just over nine years, and live in Dallas. We have two daughters: Meredith, who just turned eight, and Hannah, who is almost six. We also have a multitude of pets, as Kari is involved in Boston Terrier dog rescue here in the area. This means she works with the local animal shelters in saving dogs of that breed from being put down simply because they have no home. She assists with arranging foster care (either at our house or another foster home), then works to find appropriate adopters who give the dog a new home.

Other than that, we just spend a lot of time at church as we are very involved there, and I hope to complete my honey-do list at home before I retire. I currently work for a computer services company called Atos Origin, but since my position is moving to our SW Arlington office soon, I'm not sure how much longer I will be here. I have no desire to drive 40 miles each way every day.

Anyway, please keep in touch and let me know what's going on in life. I hope everyone has a great time at the reunion. Oh yeah, since everyone at reunions always wonders what everyone else will look like, here's my scoop. Take my senior picture, add some graying hair, a couple of crow's feet around the eyes, and about 10 pounds, and you're there. I do wear my hair a little shorter now too.

Anyone who wishes to contact me should email me at this email address or (my more permanent one) hugheward@hotmail.com, or if they use regular mail, you have my address on file.

Take care and have a great weekend!

Hugh

I work at San Angelo Standard Times and have been employed there for 24 years. I married Odie Rivas and we have 2 beautiful daughters. We have been together for 21 years and are happily married. My oldest daughter is Brandi Michelle she is 17 years old - a senior at Central High School and works partime @ Jackson Walker she is a very bright student and beautiful girl. I'm proud to say she has never missed a day of school since Kindergarten - this is her 13 th year and her goal is to graduate from high school with perfect attendance. My other daughter is JamiNicole and she is 5 years old and in Pre-K and knows it all and is just as beautiful as Brandi.

Sorry I couldn't attend.

I am writing to inform you that I will not be attending the reunion. I live in Virginia Beach Va, and my husband Pete, is on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. He has deployed to the med and I do not feel comfortable leaving our three children with friends. I do want to express how I have felt being included in all of your emails. And it has been great seeing alot of persons names on your email, people that I considered friends, but because of my travels have lost contact. I have not visited family in San Angelo in 2 years, but hopefully in the near future I will get there. Please express to all that they have a wonderful time. Also one more thing, in reading some of the emails, I see that a couple of my friends were not found, Cynthia Bautista and Nelda Lopez. If by chance they do show up, could you please forward their email to me, or mine to them. Hope the next reunion I will be able to attend.

Thanks again for all the information and all that you have done to make this reunion a success.

Best wishes

I had plans for coming to the reunion with my family but my father-in-law has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer including metastatic to his lymph nods and his lungs. He is graded a stage 4 which is very bad. He just turned 58 at the end of July. He has started chemotherapy and has an awesome attitude and faith. We are making the most of every moment we have, because the truth is none of us know how long we have. His mother ironically was diagnosed the same way with the same cancers, so badly though they didn't do therapy. My in-laws love to go camping and we are going with them this weekend instead of going to the reunion. I'm really sorry I missed the 10 year but I feel it's important to be with my family. He is my daughters only grandfather as I lost my dad 9 years ago. I'm sure some one will be doing a book of the reunion and I would like to send a picture when I can, if you would let me know if such a book will be done. I'm sorry I haven't written before now but our lives have been intensely involved with my father-in-law. I hope all goes well at the reunion and maybe if we have a 25 or later year reunion I will be there. Thankyou for all the info, it was alot of fun getting involved and to remember that part of my life. Please keep my father-in-law in your prayers, for he tells me he can feel the power of prayer at every treatment. God Bless.

I'm currently in Hattiesburg, Mississippi (home of the University of Southern Mississippi) where Bob is on faculty in the Polymer Science department. We married in 1982 and finished up our degrees at Texas A&M (GIG"EM AGS!!!). After College Station, we moved to Montreal, Canada where we lived for two years. It was quite a change from Texas to a place where we had four seasons and LOTS of snow. From Montreal, we moved here to Hattiesburg. It's a beautiful pine forested town of about 90,000 people, and we're enjoying our time here. (It's true what they say about humidity, though.) We were fortunate enough to get to live out in California for one summer while Bob did some research for the DOD out near the Mohave Desert. That was a great adventure that I'd love to repeat sometime. I am a little jealous of those of you who still live in the great state of Texas! I am a teacher, and am currently teaching preschool, so that I can spend time with our own three children. They are Ashley (15), Kyle (almost 11) and Kate (6). I am still enjoying acting in local productions, singing and teaching at church, volunteering, and traveling just about anywhere. We are frantically busy, just like the rest of you. I'm attaching a family picture page since I've enjoyed so much seeing everyone else's pictures. Enough about me... ya'll have a WONDERFUL time at the reunion. PLEASE tell me the next twenty years will not go by as quickly as these have.

Love to all,

Scott Hutchens here! Unfortunately I won't be able to make the reunion. I live and work in the Denton Tx. area and have been in sales of Nortel & Avaya Telecommunications for the past 7 years. Very blessed with 2 boys from my previous marriage, Dylan 7 and Ross 3. Currently (and eternally) married to Marie, who has 2 children also, Adam 16, and Lauren 11. Quiet a challenge with 4 kids and certainly blessed with Marie being a Full-Time mother and wife! Our greatest joy as a family is our Church Home and the hope of Salvation for our kids!! Life is great and challenging at the same time!!!

I married Tracy Brown the August after graduation in 1981. We both attended Angelo State until Tracy graduated. Then moved to the Houston area where we lived for about 9 years. (Tracy working for Link Flight Simulation as a software engineer and me in banking.) We had our 1st daughter in l985 and the 2nd in l987. Then we moved to the Binghamton, NY, area where we lived for 3 years and had a baby boy in l992. Back to Texas we went because we didn't want to have children with New York accents! First Arlington, TX, for a year, then to a house with 6 acres " in the country" in Mansfield, TX, where we have lived for 7 years with our 3 absolutely terrific kids. (Even as teenagers!) I have been a stay-at-home Mom for 14 years now, part-time college student here and there, BSF student, volunteer for the schools, PTA President, Meals on Wheels, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church and whoever else suckers me in as free help. I am planning to get a "real" job in a couple of years after our daughter graduates from high school in 2003. Tracy and I count our blessing each day with our children and are fortunate to have been married for 20 years! Tracy has been with the same company for 19 years, but it has been bought 5 times and is now L 3 Communications located in Arlington, TX. My phone number is (817) 453-9857.

Here's my "paragraph". Will we be able to order the photo magazine from the reunion if we are not attending the reunion?

In 1983 I married Damon McDurmitt (Class of 1980), my high school sweetheart. We have 2 children, a boy and girl. Jennifer is 18 and a freshman at South Plains College and Jody is 16 and a junior at Monterey High School. We live in Lubbock, Tx and have been here for 6 years. I work at the Frenship School District in Wolfforth, TX as a secretary in the Administration Building. Damon's job with Dean Foods (the owner of Gandy's/Bell Dairy) has taken us from San Angelo to El Paso back to San Angelo and now here to Lubbock. If you are ever up this way, look us up!

I am still hoping Mark will get in on Friday and want to go Saturday night. We will pay you at the door if that happens.

If we don't...here is the scoop on Mark.

Mark works as a hunting guide/taxidermist for Wildlife Connections/Frontier Taxidermy. He and I (Angie Williams Wright - SR 81 from Lake View High) have been married 17 years and have 3 wonderful children. Megan (15) who swims Varsity at Central, Austin (13) an 8th grader at Lee Jr High and Madison, who will be 4 the day after the reunion.

Sounds like the reunion plans are going great! Glad to hear you are having a good turnout. Really hope to be able to see you there!

John and I were married December 20,1986. He has one son Alex by a previous marriage and we have a daughter Heather. It's hard to believe we have 2 kids in high school. I am a stay at home wife and mom. Oct 26th I celebrate 16 yrs sobriety!!! I still collect penguins. I have way over 400. Being Catholic we have been lighting lots of candles over the last few weeks and on Saturday because I won't be with you I am lighting a candle for each of those we have lost and each of those I know are in the military. I miss Carter and Thad and David, Lynn and Scott. I want people Like Terry Baldwin and David Bradshaw and Ronnie and Cindy Merriman to be safe while they serve our country. I raise
my glass to all those at the reunion and that are not and hope that all are well and safe and HAPPY!!! TO THE CLASS OF 81

I am replying to your email that I will not ne making the reunion. Up until last Thursday, I was dating someone whose son's birthday is this Saturday (Oct 6th) and that was my reason for not coming.....well, long story short, we have since gone our separate ways.

As for my history: I am divorced from my son's father and living in Fredericksburg, Texas. I work in the Information Systems department at Hill Country Memorial Health System in Fredericksburg, Texas (as well as Stephen Fry!!!) As far as the most interesting person that I have met, it would have to be my son, Hunter Alex Behrends, 5 yrs old and in Kindergarten. He far exceeds anybody I have ever known in my life. I wish all of you a great reunion, and I hope to be in San Angelo around holiday time.

God Bless,

Stephanie White Behrends
sbehrends@hillcountrymemorial.com

I am still not sure if we will be able to make any of the activities. My son has 2 select soccer games in Midland on Saturday, one at 1:00 and another at 5:00. I am hoping to make the mixer on Friday if my hubby will go.We won't be back in time for the Saturday evening activities. Let's see, a little about my family and myself....... I live here in San Angelo still, never moved away. I remarried nearly 7 years ago to a wonderful man named Randy. We are 12 years apart in age. I have found my soulmate and am truly blessed by God to have such a special man in my life. Randy is a Captain with the San Angelo Fire Department.I have a really great son! His name is Ryan Davis, age 13 going on 30,plays select soccer, football at Glenn, straight A student, and looks so much like me it hurts.( Poor kid.) I have 4 stepchildren, Rene-28 , Eric-26, Kelly-24, & Rachelle-22. One very special "almost a daughter", Evie, have raised her since she was 3 weeks old, she's now 4, and a HAM for a granddaughter, named Mikalya, she's 2! I am lucky to be an "at home mom". I am a retired floral designer, enjoyed that for about 13 years. Just moved to the lake, we are building our home ourselves so it is a work-in-progress, if it doesn't kill us. Ha ha. The most interesting person that I have ever met....would have to be my husband. He is constantly enlightening me to things I have never given thought to or ever known about, but most importantly, he helped me renew my relationship with the Lord. The most interesting thing that I have ever done would have to be standing beside him and helping him recover when he broke his leg in 22 places below the shin with 6 open fractures. Yes, this squeamish person, actually went through several years of open wounds, and nasty infection control, external fixators and all. Surprising strength is within us all to rise to the occasion when we can't possibly imagine going through some difficulties. Just a quick note to all, God Bless and let's see each other at the next reunion!!!!
